RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2018
A Very English Garden
People’s Choice Award
Silver-Gilt medal
Contractor: Andrew Loudon Master Craftsman
The garden was created as a celebration of craftsmanship and tradition with inspiration drawn from the Arts and Crafts Movement. The design stands the test of time both physically and aesthetically and was simply a beautiful garden which conveyed no theme or message.
The focal point was a dry stone, half-domed niche which displayed the skill of the craftsman and offered a sheltered view of the sumptuous, jewel toned planting which included many familiar garden favourites.
The romantic old roses supplied by Peter Beale’s Roses were a popular part of the garden as their scent filled the air, the following varieties were included.

- Chevy Chase
- Perennial Blue
- Frilly Cuff
- Capitaine John Ingram
- Cardinal de Richelieu
- Nuits de Young
- Reine Des Violettes
- Tuscany Superb
- Rose de Rescht
The garden was greatly received by the many visitors to the show and all the viewers of the BBC television coverage. This culminated in the garden being presented with The People’s Choice Award for the Artisan category which was a validation of the skill and endeavour involved in creating the garden and was a true reflection that quality and elegance is still greatly appreciated, thank you to all who voted.
